Police in Allen say they were forced to shoot a dog they say had bitten two people.
Officers were called to a home on Leading Lane Drive Monday night after two pit bulls attacked one adult and one child. Sgt. Jonathan Mainus says the officers tried to use a catchpole to nab the dogs when the dogs charged the officer at which point they drew their weapon.
Both ran away. Mainus says they found the dog that was shot nearby and took it to the hospital. They found the second dog in the woods dead. Mainus believes the second dog may have died from heat exhaustion.
The adult and child who were attacked were treated at the scene and released.
The dogs' owners have been cooperating with officers and will not face charges.
