Hourly employees of Amazon can attend nine colleges in Texas as part of the company's Career Choice program. Amazon will cover the cost of tuition at those schools to help its employees learn new skills.
"By making this commitment to its employees through higher education, Amazon is demonstrating how partnerships among employers and institutions can empower students to contribute to, participate in, and benefit from our world class economy," said Texas Commissioner of Higher Education Harrison Keller.
The program is open to hourly employees of Amazon who have been with the company for more than 90 days. Amazon will cover the cost of tuition at Dallas College, Tarrant County Community College, Houston Community College, Lone Star College, Alamo College and Austin Community College. The program will also be available for Amazon employees who attend the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Dallas and Texas State University.
"Initiatives like Career Choice can be life changing for some people and I look forward to seeing how the program evolves," said Evan Luscher, Director of Operations at Amazon in Texas.
