Two bodies found in a ditch near a San Antonio park on Tuesday are believed to be those of a 3-year-old boy and his mother for whom an Amber Alert was issued just hours earlier, according to the Bexar County sheriff.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said deputies found evidence that gunshots were fired and it was "possible" that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.
The incident began as a welfare check Monday night in the 8200 block of Dover's Den on the west side of San Antonio, Salazar said.
Salazar said after a family member allowed deputies into the residence, they found elements that "led them to believe there was cause for concern" for 3-year-old Kaiden Kriger and his mother, 32-year-old Savannah Kriger.
The Texas Department of Public Safety issued an Amber Alert for Kaiden Kriger just before 7 a.m. Tuesday. He had last been seen at noon Monday in the 5600 block of Lonestar Parkway in San Antonio.
The sheriff's office received "pings" from Savannah Kriger's phone and located her abandoned vehicle late Monday at Tom Slick Community Park, Salazar said.
Salazar said park police located two bodies in a ditch on Tuesday morning, and they were "operating under the premise" that the bodies were those of Kaiden Kriger and Savannah Kriger.
Salazar said there were no other "suspects outstanding."
