On the day before they take the next step towards a strike, American Airlines flight attendants will be hitting the picket lines today.
The pickets taking place in 13 cities, including Euless outside American Airlines headquarters, come one day before the board of directors at the Association of Professional Flight Attendants is expected to approve a request to be released from federal mediation.
That would trigger a 30-day cooling-off period, after which the flight attendants could go on strike.
Union spokesman Paul Hartshorn Junior says that would be an absolute last resort.
The union says flight attendants are working under pay and vacation policies negotiated almost a decade ago, and that they've now gone four years without a pay raise.
