A new lawsuit is seeking over $170 million from the Sandman Hotel Group, its partners, and Atmos Energy in response to the hotel explosion that rocked downtown Fort Worth on January 8th.

In the lawsuit, Karen Mayte Lopez Ontiveros was working in the kitchen that day, near the center of the blast, and alleges she and others alerted management about a possible gas leak.

In the lawsuit, after notifying hotel officials, it says management instructed her and fellow employees to not evacuate the building and to finish working on their tasks.

The suit says a blue flame ignited and moments later Lopez-Ontiveros was trapped in rubble. The lawsuit says a quarter of her body is covered in burns, she's suffered internal damage to her lungs and kidneys, multiple broken bones, blood clots, and among other things, has been placed in a coma with a low chance of survival.
