Federal prosecutors say 21-year-old Luis Eduardo Navarrete was part of a drug dealing ring that sold counterfeit pills containing fentanyl to students in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.
Three people died of drug overdoses connected to pills sold by the group and several others were severely sickened.
Prosecutors say Navarrete was a key player in the drug ring and distributed the pills out of his home in Carrollton, even while he was wearing an ankle monitor while he was on bond in a separate case out of Dallas County.
Navarrete pleaded guilty on Thursday to conspiracy and drug distribution charges and could face up to 40 years in prison.
