An argument over an infant’s first haircut may have escalated into a shooting that killed two 18-year-olds in Mesquite early Wednesday, police said.
Officers responded shortly after midnight Oct. 14 to a shooting in the 2200 block of Amber Springs Drive. They found two people in the roadway with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital, where they died, police said.
The victims were identified as Dra’hcir Rashad Leftrick and Vicente Richard Ignacio Ramirez, both 18-year-old Mesquite residents.
Mesquite police Lt. Michael B. Kelly said investigators believe the initial disagreement involved an infant’s first haircut. Police have not determined what led to the shooting or whether other issues contributed to the confrontation.
A third shooting victim, 20-year-old Jesiah McDaniel of Houston, later arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. Police said investigators believe he was involved in the incident and have arrested him.
The shooting remains under investigation.
