The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld a death penalty sentence in a gruesome murder in Arlington.
Hector Acosta is facing execution for the 2017 murders of two but police say he is actually responsible for three deaths. One of the victims had his head severed and it was found along a hiking trail near AT&T Stadium.
During the 2019 capital murder trial, it was learned Acosta had killed a third person, severed the body and buried it below a house foundation. At the time, Tarrant County prosecutor Kevin Rousseau said the brutality left an impression on the jury.
Acosta is a long way from execution. The case still has to go through the federal court system.
