Arlington teen charged after family argument leads to murder

A family argument in Arlington has turned into a capital murder case after police say two people were killed and a third was wounded following a shooting Wednesday.

An arrest affidavit says 17-year-old Lorenzo Armstrong Jr. answered the door at his home in the 900 block of Tennessee Trail just after noon yesterday and found his cousin and another man.

Reports say the cousin hit Armstrong in the face and that is what started a fight.

"The precipice for the altercation appears to be that one individual was contacting another individual's girlfriend via social media" said Sgt. Michael Chitty, Arlington police. A confrontation occurred. They went to the house of the suspect an started a physical fight."

Armstrong's father and uncle got involved and the fight ended up outside. The documents say someone pulled a gun. The report says Armstrong got ahold of it and began fire.

The cousin and other man were killed. A third person was shot in the leg but is expected to survive.

Police have not released the names of any of the victims.

"We are thankful for the quick response by patrol officers and detectives to bring this horrible incident to quick resolution," said Interim Police Chief Kevin Kolbye. "We continue to work this case and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward."

Armstrong has been charged with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons as well as Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
