The Arlington Police Department says they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in which the suspect in expected to make a full recovery from injuries.

During a press conference Monday afternoon, Arlington PD shared that the initial call was about a domestic disturbance in which the 20-year-old suspect had been in an argument with a family member over his 'drug use.' That occurred early Monday morning in the 3700 block of Shady Valley Dr., according to a statement from Arlington PD.

When officers attended to the call and initially came across the suspect near the residence, they offered to take him home. Upon a standard pat-down procedure to bring him into a patrol vehicle, the suspect took off running. Police say they did not yet have a motive for an arrest.

Police say the suspect matched the description of a second call in which another homeowner reported an attempted robbery of money at gunpoint but the suspect had kept running. Officers encountered the suspect back at the initial family residence attempting to leave in a pick-up truck and saw he was armed. This is when a vehicle pursuit ensued and the suspect fired his weapon out his windshield window towards officers before crashing into a different vehicle. That other driver is okay.

It was after the crash that a pursuit on-foot ensued and ended when two officers realizing the suspect was still armed fired their service weapons several times. The suspect then surrended to the officers with gunshot wounds. Officers rendered him aid and he was transported to a local hospital where he's expected to make a full recovery.

Arlington PD says the identity of the suspect will not be revealed until he has made a full recovery and is out of the hospital. Charges pending include one count of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, two counts of Aggravated Assault Family Violence, and one count of Evading.

No officers were injured during the incident and neither were any other family. Officers learned the suspect had fired his weapon inside the family home as well. The investigation is ongoing and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the results.
