ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - Arlington Police are asking for your help in finding the driver who hit and injured a five-year-old boy.
The boy was riding his scooter on River Bluffs Dr., near 360 and Debbie Ln., last week when he was hit by a pickup truck.
"The driver of the red Tacoma pickup truck had fled the scene after denying being involved," says Arlington Police Det. David Szatkowski; "and unfortunately, the five-year-old suffered a pretty severe fractured arm and collarbone."
The boy has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Det. Szatkowski says the Tacoma that the man was driving is a newer model.
"There's probably going to be a dent or some scratches on the driver's side of the vehicle," says Szatkowski. "The boy was on a scooter, and so there may be some scratches from the handlebars of the scooter on the driver's door or maybe the back door of the truck."
Szatkowski says speed was not a factor in the crash.
"The boy that was in the street is majority at fault for the crash," he says. "However, the driver is required to stop and provide his information and insurance to anybody injured; and because he left the scene, he may be liable for that offense of accident involving injury and leaving the scene."
Szatkowski says had the driver stopped as he should have, he likely would not be facing any charges.
"As long as he has a driver's license and insurance (and) there was no other charges against him, that probably just would have been listed on a crash report," says Szatkowski, "and it would have been up to insurance and the civil courts to handle any claims."
The driver is described as Hispanic, in his mid to late 30s, 5'7" tall, 200 lbs. with short black hair and a goatee.
Witnesses said he was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts at the time.
Those with information are asked to call Det. Szatkowski at 817-459-5786.
