ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - Police say a student told staff members at Gunn Junior High another student had a gun with him at school on Friday.
When the school resource officer spoke with the teen, he admitted he had a gun, according to the district.
Arlington police arrested him for unlawful carrying of a weapon. The principal of Gunn Junior High sent a letter to parents to inform them of the incident. The letter also commends the student who reached out when he found out about the gun.
The principal added that the safety and security of students and staff is their top priority.
Arlington police also urged parents to ensure firearms are properly stored and secure to prevent further incidents.
"We would like to remind the public that it is illegal to bring a gun into a school – and there are very serious consequences for doing so," Arlington police said in a statement.
"We also STRONGLY encourage parents / guardians who are gun owners to properly secure their firearms in their homes so that kids don't have easy access to them. We recommend using a gun safe or gun lock.
