Arlington voters approve two tax increases

Arlington taxpayers have voted to raise their own taxes to fund schools and economic development.

There were two tax increase proposals on the ballot for residents of Arlngton or the Arlington school district.


First, voters okayed increasing the sales tax to 8.25% the highest allowed under Texas law. The increase will go to the city's Economic Development corporation.
About 55% percent of the voters were in favor of it.

Also, voters agreed to a hike in the Arlington school district property taxes to help give teachers a raise. That one passed by fewer than 100 votes.
