DUNCANVILLE (1080 KRLD)- DPS is now leading the investigation after police shot and killed a man who opened fire inside the Duncanville Fieldhouse where kids were attending summer camp.
Police shot an armed man dead inside the Duncanville Fieldhouse, where some 150 kids were gathered for summer camp. Police say the man entered through the main lobby and fired a shot during a confrontation with a front desk staffer, but no one was hit. Upon hearing that shot, counselors quickly moved the kids to a safe area and started locking the doors.
Duncanville Assistant Police Chief Matthew Stogner says the gunman then fired a shot through a locked door; but again, no one was hit.
A short time later, police found him in the gym and fatally shot him. Stogner says the kids in the gym had been moved out prior to the deadly confrontation with police. At this time, it's unclear why the gunman entered the fieldhouse in the first place.
