Texas Game Wardens announced the arrest on Tuesday of a 21-year-old woman in connection with a deadly collision between a jet ski and a kayak on Grapevine Lake.

Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, 21, was riding a jet ski that hit a kayak and killed 18-year-old Ava Moore on Sunday, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Authorities said Gonzalez fled the scene with 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo, while witnesses pulled Moore from the water and tried unsuccessfully to save her life.

Police said Gonzalez was arrested at a home in southern Dallas.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Gonzalez and Perozo are both in the United States illegally.

"Ava Moore's senseless death was caused by an illegal alien who should have never been in our country in the first place," Paxton said in a statement.

Gonzalez and Perozo were involved in a hit-and-run while leaving the lake after the deadly jet ski collision, game wardens said.

The Texas Attorney General's Office is working with Texas Park and Wildlife as well as the Grapevine Police Department and Dallas Police Department on the investigation. The Department of Homeland Security is also involved.

Gonzalez was arrested in Dallas.
