A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a March crash that killed a 6-year-old girl on Interstate 20 in Arlington, police said.
Arlington Police say Courtney Getz was taken into custody Tuesday on warrants charging her with intoxication manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance under 1 gram. She was booked into the Arlington City Jail before being transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.
Police said Getz was driving a Nissan Sentra that crashed into the rear of a dump truck on March 25 near the I-20 and U.S. 287 interchange. She and two children were taken to hospitals, where 6-year-old Aviah Getz later died. The dump truck driver was not injured.
Investigators recovered THC vape pens from the vehicle and obtained a blood sample from Getz. Laboratory results confirmed the presence of THC, and toxicologists determined the findings were consistent with use within several hours of the crash and indicated she may have been impaired while driving, police said.
