Wednesday was "Read Across America Day". According to Literacy Texas, there are approximately 4.8 million Texans who still need help with adult literacy. This means they cannot read or write at the kindergarten level and are considered functionally illiterate.

On Ask the Expert, Steve Banta, Executive Director of Literacy Texas joined the KRLD Afternoon News. He spoke with Kristin Diaz and David Rancken about the training and literacy need across the state. Literacy Texas works with hundreds of different organizations working to help people of all ages learn to read and write.
