Hesitancy toward getting the COVID-19 vaccine has been recorded across all races. However the rates have been notably higher in communities of color. Throughout America's history, the Black community in particular, has continuously experienced disparities through the medical system. Thus leading to some to not want to get the shot.
Reverend Ceasar Rentie is the Vice President of Pastoral Services at Methodist Health System and has been a leader in fighting vaccine hesitancy among communities of color. He joined KRLD's Kristin Diaz and John Liddle for Tuesday's "Ask the Expert" on the KRLD Afternoon News.
With this new covid vaccine available, he says it is very important to get the message across to these communities that this vaccine is a tool to help get us out of this pandemic, and not to hurt them. He says unfortunately the distrust runs deep in history but things are slowly changing. Rev. Rentie also expressed it is important for institutions to address those fears with sensitivity.
