At least 50 animals killed in Fort Worth cattle hauler crash

Dozens of cows died in a big rig crash in Fort Worth on Sunday.

Officials It was about 12:30 p.m. when the 18-wheeler carrying about 70 head of cattle veered off Loop 820 near Team Ranch Road in far southwest Fort Worth.

It took crews hours to get into the cattle hauler to separate living from dead animals and save what they could. Approximately 50 head died.

A heavy rescue team brought in gear to cut into the sides of the trailer to get to the cows, working alongside livestock teams and crews with the Fort Worth Marshal's Division.

It's not clear why the driver lost control. He received minor injuries.
