Some non-believers are suing the city of Fort Worth over free speech.

Metroplex Atheists wanted to hang their banners around town advertising an August event about keeping religion out of public schools.

The group was approved to hang similar banners back in 2019 so it was surprised when the city refused the request this year. It's not clear why the city denied the groups request but the atheists believe it's censorship and a violation of their free speech rights so it's filed a federal lawsuit against the city.

Metroplex Atheists is a non-profit that advocates the seperation of church and state.

Fort Worth got a lot of blow back in 2019 for allowing the group to advertise, but then Mayor Betsy Price defended the city's move saying she did not support atheists message but supports their right to free speech.

As for this lawsuit the city is only saying it, "believes that it acted appropriately and will defend its position in court."
