DALLAS (KRLD) - There's a call to investigate the ethics behind the Ken Paxton led lawsuit to overturn the election results.
17 Republican Attorneys general joined in on the failed lawsuit that sought to overturn the election results in four battleground states. A nonpartisan group called Lawyers Defending American Democracy, which says it has the support of 5,000 lawyers across the country, has called for the state bar of Texas, and its counterparts in other states, to investigate and seek disciplinary action.
UT law professor Lucas Powe isn't part of the group, but says "any competent lawyer would have known it's frivolous. Texas is objecting to the fact that other states voted for Biden. In each of the other states, there's been challenges within that state to the election results. Texas had zero chance of getting the Supreme Court to hear the case."
"I definitely would like to see the state bar look. When you file a frivolous lawsuit in federal court, you are open to sanctions."
In a press release, Lawyers Defending American Democracy writes "As lawyers committed to the rule of law, we condemn the action taken by 18 state Attorneys General, and joined by 126 Republican members of Congress, asking the Supreme Court to overturn election results in four battleground states in which President-elect Biden prevailed. The historically unprecedented attack on our democracy needs to be met by historically unprecedented state bar investigations."
