Auto-pedestrian crash kills one brother, injures another

LEWISVILLE (1080 KRLD) - A 12-year-old is in critical condition today after a car veered off the road, striking him and his teenage brother.

The auto-pedestrian accident happened around 8 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Highland Drive in Lewisville. Police say 31-year-old Erin Sims was driving under the influence when she swerved across lanes.

"The driver crossed over into the westbound lanes and caused a glancing head-on crash," says  Matt Martucci, Public Information Coordinator with the City of Lewisville.  "The car then veered off onto the sidewalk and struck two pedestrians: An 18-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy."

Both were rushed to the hospital, Martucci says. The 12-year-old suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed. He is currently in critical condition. His 18-year-old brother did not survive.

"We never like to see anything like this happen at any time," Martucci says. "But it's especially sad during the holiday time."

Sims was treated for minor injuries and arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. She was released from jail on a $50,000 bond.
