A man is accused of killing his mother at a home in Azle.
Parker County sheriff's deputies got a 911 call from someone Tuesday night who said they heard several shots being fired and a woman screaming.
When they arrived at the home on Cedar Creek Drive they found the body of Rebecca Russell, 64.
Witnesses told them that Matthew Ray Russell, 37, had just fled the scene, and the victim was his mother.
Matthew was later found at the Palo Pinto County Jail, where he was being held on a charge of public intoxication.
He has also been charged with murder in his mother's death.
Rebecca Russell was a beloved math teacher in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD.
She taught calculus and pre-calculus at Saginaw High School, where she had been at since the school opened in 2005.
She also tutored students needing help in math.
The school district sent a letter to families, saying it will have grief counselors at the school for the next few days for any students and staffers needing support.
