A Bedford police officer is recovering at home, three weeks after he was seriously hurt in an on-duty crash.

On the morning of Aug. 11, motorcycle officer Sam Gulizia had his lights and siren on while pursuing a speeding driver on Central Drive near Pipeline Road -- when another vehicle turned onto Central and caused a collision.

Gulizia and the other driver were both taken to the hospital but the officer's injuries were more severe. He's been at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth since the crash.

Friday, he was well enough to be sent home in an ambulance escorted by officers from the Bedford Police Department along with officers from North Richland Hills, Mansfield, Hurst, Colleyville, Sansom Park, Crowley, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Mansfield and the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office.
