The State Fair of Texas is giving Big Tex a patriotic makeover as it prepares to celebrate two major milestones.

The Fair unveiled its 2026 commemorative theme art Monday, featuring the slogan “Stars, Stripes, and Howdies.” The design honors the 250th birthday of the United States and the 140th anniversary of the State Fair of Texas.

Big Tex is the centerpiece of the artwork, surrounded by red, white and blue imagery, colorful icons and a vintage wood-block poster style inspired by the Fair’s long history of advertising posters.

The artwork also includes a special Creative Arts ribbon recognizing America’s 250th birthday, along with visual nods to both the Texas and American flags.

“The 250th birthday of our nation is a defining moment in history, and the State Fair of Texas is honored to celebrate this pivotal milestone by incorporating iconic themes and imagery into our 2026 commemorative theme art,” State Fair of Texas President Mitchell Glieber said in a statement.

The State Fair traces its roots to 1886. Organizers say this year’s design is meant to celebrate the role fairs have played for generations as gathering places for community, creativity and state pride.

The 2026 State Fair of Texas runs from Sept. 25 through Oct. 18 at Fair Park in Dallas.

Theme merchandise and season passes are already on sale. Additional ticket information is expected later this month.
