The country is in the midst of a national blood crisis, the second declared such crisis from the American Red Cross.
Linda Braddy is the CEO of the American Red Cross North Texas. She says the blood supply dropped 25 percent in June alone.
"We do not have adequate supply on the shelves," Braddy said. "It reaches a point where elective surgeries have to be delayed. If somebody has a life-threatening crisis and needs a blood transfusion, there actually may not be blood available for them."
Both 'O-positive' and 'O-negative' are needed the most at the moment.
"O-positive is really being hit hard, that is the most common blood type in the population," Braddy said. "O-negative is the universal donor type."
There are a number of blood drives across the Metroplex through the middle of August.
