An epic inter-species game of tag played out on a North Texas woman's front lawn!
Melissa Smith of Carrollton captured the coyote and bobcat interacting on her doorbell camera early last Sunday. She says both were probably attracted to the rabbits and squirrels that populate her neighborhood and were maybe going after the same prey.
Smith originally shared the video with the DFW Urban Wildlife organization. Representative Chris Jackson says this interaction is normal compared to other mammals.
"Coyotes are well known to engage in cross-species friendships, Jackson says. "Adult bobcats are less so. But a juvenile bobcat, like the one in this video, who until just recently spent all of his time with his mom and siblings, might be more open to a little cross-species play time."
Smith says she's used to seeing coyotes and bobcats individually appear on her porch at least once a week, but this was the first time she's ever seen both at the same time.
