
Rescue crews pulled the body of a 28-year-old CrossFit Games participant from the water at Marine Creek Lake in North Fort Worth on Thursday morning, officials say.
According to MedStar the body of the victim was pulled from the lake after 10 a.m. Thursday by the Fort Worth Fire Department. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the man as Lazar Donkic.
Video of a CrossFit event shows Donkic swimming, not far from the shore, when he went under and did not resurface.
CrossFit addressed the incident via the platform X saying it occurred during Event 1 of the CrossFit Games and they have suspended the rest of the events scheduled for Thursday.
They expressed they are 'deeply saddened' and fully cooperating with authorities and offering support to the victim's family at this time.
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker also published the following statement on X expressing support for the athlete's family, friends and the entire CrossFit Games community.
