WEATHERFORD (1080 KRLD) - A bowling tournament is being held in Weatherford Monday evening to help the family of a seriously ill Parker County sheriff's recruit.
The fundraiser is being held on behalf of Kyle Squires and his family.
They recently moved to Peaster from Seattle, and Squires was going through the process of becoming a Parker County Sheriff's deputy.
"He was in the process of filling out his background application paperwork, and we were getting ready to start that," says Sheriff Russ Authier. "And by all accounts for everything we saw, he looked like he probably would have breezed through our process."
All that was before Squires became very seriously ill.
"While applying for us, he fell ill due to COVID," says Sheriff Authier. "He's been in the hospital for quite some time (since September). The family is amassing some substantial medical bills, and we want to help out."
You can help out by going over to Film Alley in Weatherford at 5:30 Monday evening and participating in a special bowling tournament.
It's $25 a person or $100 for a four-person team.
Tournament coordinators are also seeking lane sponsors for $150 per lane.
Film Alley is located at 825 Interstate 20 Frontage Rd. in Weatherford.
If you would like to register, contact Sheriff Authier, Lt. Rick Crosley or Cpl. Brice Gallasso at the Parker County Sheriff's Office at 817-594-8845.
"We're praying for the best, praying for him and his family, and wish him a full and speedy recovery and a long tenure with a Parker County Sheriff's Office," Sheriff Authier says.
