Police in North Richland Hills confiscate what appeared to be a lethal gun brought onto a school bus.
An observant parent called 911 at around 7:30 Thursday morning.
"That parent reported seeing a middle school-aged student holding what they believed to be a gun," says Carissa Katekaru, North Richland Hills Police Dept. spokeswoman. "Then they saw that student hop on the bus and head to school."
Officers quickly located the school bus.
"We were able to stop the school bus, and we found the student and did find the student in possession of what appeared to be a very realistic firearm," says Katekaru. "After looking into it a little further, we learned that it was in fact an airsoft gun."
Katekaru says since the boy will not face any criminal charges.
"He didn't threaten anyone with the airsoft gun, (and) he wasn't pointing it at anyone," says Katekaru. "So the police department does not have any criminal charges that we can place on him."
The Birdville ISD tells KRLD it is handling the situation according to school district policy.
Katekaru says it's especially scary that the airsoft gun looks completely lethal.
"Even the magazines look completely realistic," notes Katekaru. "Then you look at the little bullets inside, and that's where you can start to see some differences."
