Brazil variant of COVID-19 identified in North Texas

UT Southwestern Medical Center has identified the first cases of the Brazil variant of COVID-19 in North Texas.

According to local health officials, the new variant was identified Saturday.

Official say it is unclear how many cases of the variant have been identified in the region. It was first discovered in Texas April 21st and a total of 11 cases have been identified statewide according to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

The Brazil variant is caused for concern according to the CDC because it can be transmitted more easily and is less susceptible to antibodies.
