The FBI is joining the Dallas police investigation into a Southwest Airlines plane that was struck by a bullet Friday night as it prepared for takeoff at Love Field.
The bullet hit the aircraft near the cockpit, just below the flight deck, Southwest Airlines confirmed. No injuries were reported, but the incident forced the plane to return to the terminal. Passengers were accommodated on alternative flights, the airline said.
The plane was near Bachman Lake when it was struck, records show. Dallas police call logs indicate there were separate reports of gunshots just across the lake from the airport.
The plane was removed from service as authorities work to determine whether the aircraft was deliberately targeted or struck by a stray bullet.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not released additional details.
