A man is dead in Fort Worth where he shot himself last night, just as police were closing in on him.

It was around 9 p.m. when Fort Worth officers interrupted a man burglarizing a business on Beach Street near Highway 121. When they tried to arrest him, he ran for it and started shooting at the officers who were chasing him.

On Monday's presser, Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes confirmed that four officers were involved, and three of them fired their weapons. It's still not clear if any of the shots hit him. Then he stumbled and fell, and sat straight up and shot himself in the head.

Noakes says this shows how fast things on the street can escalate. Despite several shots being fired during the running of a gunbattle on a busy street, no one else was hit.

The routine investigations are underway and the officers will be on administrative leave until further notice.
