A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a fentanyl trafficking charge.

Zachary Don Mathis pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and was sentenced to 135 months in prison.

Authorities said Mathis was identified in March 2022 during a drug trafficking investigation involving the distribution of fentanyl-laced pills across East Texas.

According to court documents, Mathis admitted to participating in a conspiracy responsible for distributing at least 4 kilograms of a mixture containing fentanyl. Investigators said he supplied the drugs to others for further distribution throughout the region.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Johnson.
