Just a day before today's Granbury City Council election, one of the candidates has been jailed on child porn charges.
Hood County officials say Brad Benson was booked into the Hood County jail on two felony counts of possessing child pornography.
Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds is saying little about the case, referring questions to District Attorney Ryan Sinclair who has not yet released further information.
The Republic Party of Hood County released a statement on social media saying, "The Executive committee has conferred, spoken with law enforcement, confirmed more substantial information and unanimously withdraws their support for Mr. Benson."
Benson is a Granbury Deputy Fire Marshal, a longtime member of the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department, and a small business owner in Granbury.
Benson is running for Granbury City Council Place 4 in today’s election.
