Several candidates are using Election Day, Tuesday, to get their message out before the polls close.

Former Congressman Colin Allred is running to get back to Washington.

"I love elections and I think we shouldn't take it for granted that this is a chance for us, every two years, to express how we feel about what's happening in our community, our state, and our country." Allred said.

Allred is facing Congresswoman Julie Johnson in the newly-drawn Texas 33 Congressional race. We did reach out to the Johnson campaign for any final thoughts.

Democratic hopeful to challenge Governor Greg Abbott in the fall, State Representative Gina Hinajosa, sounded optimistic Tuesday morning.

"What we're seeing across the state is record turnout because people are understanding that they need to be the change they want to see," Hinajosa said. "This is a historic election. Don't be left out, make sure your voice is heard."

Polls are open across Texas until 7:00pm.
