A man wanted for an early morning carjacking in Dallas is in critical condition after apparently shooting himself as police closed in.
Garland police say the car was stolen in Dallas early in the morning. Several hours later, around 9:00 AM, it was spotted by police in Wylie. Wylie police followed the car as it drove into Garland
"Wylie was following the vehicle from their city into our city." said Garland Police Lieutenant Pedro Barineau. "As the vehicle was turning onto Bosque and Country Club that's when they initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle immediately stopped in an alley and while they were trying to communicate, waiting for officers to arrive to get this person to exit they heard a gunshot inside the vehicle."
Barineau says the wound appeared to be self inflicted and that the Wylie officers did not fire their weapons.
The suspect was taken to an area hospital, where Barineau says he remains in critical condition. He did not know the man's name nor where in Dallas that the carjacking had occurred.
