In a significant move against international drug trafficking, Mexico has extradited 29 alleged cartel members to the United States this week.

Among those extradited is José Rodolfo "El Gato" Villarreal-Hernández, a high-profile cartel leader accused of orchestrating the murder of a Southlake, Texas man in 2013.

Villarreal-Hernández, who was on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, is believed to have ordered the hit on Juan Jesus Guerrero Chapa, a former lawyer for the Gulf Cartel and a U.S. government informant. Guerrero Chapa was gunned down in Southlake Town Square while shopping with his wife. The brazen attack shocked the local community and highlighted the reach of Mexican drug cartels into the United States.

The extradition of Villarreal-Hernández and other cartel figures comes amid ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to dismantle powerful drug trafficking organizations. The suspects will face various charges, including drug trafficking, murder, and other serious crimes.
