A Cedar Hill man who admitted to murder has been sentenced to 5-years in prison.
Court records show 41-year-old Marcus Branch pleaded guilty to killing Jerriun Maxie outside the Sidebar lounge in Uptown Dallas two years ago.
Maxie's mother, Elaine Williams tells KRLD News she cannot believe her son's life was only worth five years in prison. During her victim impact statement, Williams said she lectured Branch about what he had done.
Witnesses say Branch and Maxie had been arguing outside when a fight started. Branch told friends that Maxie had hit him and he fired a gun in self-defense.
