Was she the victim of teenage sex trafficking or a killer? A teen from Cedar Hill has been indicted for murder and aggravated robbery in a case that has drawn national attention.
Zephaniah "Zephi" Trevino, 18, is accused of murder and aggravated robbery in the August 3, 2019 death of Carlos Morillo at a Grand Prairie apartment. Trevino was 16 at the time but has been certified to stand trial as an adult.
Trevino was 16 at the time. Police say Morillo was lured to the apartment under the pretense that he would have sex with an underage girl. But the real plot was to rob Morillo of drugs and money, police said. However, Morillo fought back and was shot.
Two others, Jesse Martinez and Philip Baldenegro, were arrested along with Trevino.
The case has drawn attention from celebrities who claim Trevino was the victim of teenage sex trafficking. Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kim Kardashian West have all called for Trevino's release.
Trevino's attorney, Justin Moore, said he was not aware of the indictment and could have a statement later today.
