Police in Celina say a suspect they arrested on Wednesday after a grass fire was spotted has confessed to setting several other fires.
Reports say Jonathan Andrew Hughes of Melissa, age 44, is being held in the Collin County Jail on six counts of arson.
Firefighters and police officers from Celina were called out to a grass fire near County Road 95 and Preston Road on Wednesday. They found evidence at the scene they say led them to Hughes. They gathered other evidence and secured a warrant for his arrest.
Hughes was interviewed by police detectives and the fire marshal. Police say during that interview, he confessed to his involvement in 12 other arson cases dating back to October of 2022. One of those cases threatened a neighborhood in Celina.
Police say Hughes was also on parole for arson and burglary of a vehicle at the time of his arrest.
