Many people are suffering damage and other major losses after last week’s winter storm and the City of Richardson’s Disaster Recovery Center aims to help.

The center is helping Richardson residents apply for disaster aid from FEMA and the SBA.

Greg Sowell, with the city, says it’s hard to gage how much aid is needed right now, so the center is opening “just in case.”

"The hard thing for us to know is the level of impact," Sowell says. "It's not like when a tornado comes through and you can drive through the neighborhoods and see the level of damage that was left behind, and you can make some assessments and estimates about the level of need."

The Disaster Recovery Center is open Tuesday through Saturday in the Richardson Civic Center. In addition to helping people with federal assistance, Sowell says it can also connect people to food and living resources.
