A Collin County sex offender is going to prison for 45 years after his fourth arrest for failing to register with police.

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis calls David Hayes a "habitual offender" saying he has already been sent to prison multiple times for failing to register as a sex offender.

Last year, McKinney police got a call from a landlord saying Hayes had been living with a woman in her rental unit for about a year without permission. At the time of the call, the girlfriend said she wanted Hayes to get out but he refused.

Police learned Hayes had a conviction for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child but had never registered his sex offender status in McKinney.

With a warrant in hand, police say they found him hanging around a park near a number of children and arrested him.
