A man from The Colony who thought his pregnant sister was an embarassment to the family has pleaded guilty to her murder.

Court records show that 23-year-old Eduardo Arevalo has been sentenced to 40-years in prison after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of felony murder.

Arevalo had faced life without parole for capital murder in the December 2019 strangulation death of his 23-year-old sister Viridiana Arevalo. She was pregnant and the baby did not survive.

Reports say Eduardo Arevalo considered the pregnant woman a family embarassment. He first choked his sister with a headlock then used duct tape around her head to make sure she died.

Reports show he tried to stage the murder as a suicide, hiding the body for several days then dumping it in an alley where it was found.

Surveillance cameras recorded Arevalo in the alley where her body was found.
