Controversial homeless shelter in Oak Cliff gets approval

DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- A controversial move to put a homeless shelter in Oak Cliff has been approved by the Dallas City Council.

The council voted to purchase a vacant hospital on South Hampton Road at Perryton Drive in Oak Cliff for homeless housing. But the move sparked anger from some in the community claiming they were not given a chance to speak about the move because they were unaware it was happening.

Councilwoman Carolyn King Arnold who represents the district says her constituents are worried about their proprieties. Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn says every district has a homeless shelter and one in her district, is the city's largest.

The city will pay $6.5 million for the site with bond money.
