For the most part, COVID-19 has remained on the back burner in recent weeks. But North Texas health experts are keeping an eye on the variant known as BA.2.
According to researchers, BA.2 spreads about 80% faster than the original omicron variant. Based on the latest data, BA.2 now makes up just over a third of the new positive COVID-19 cases in the U.S.
At the same time, COVID-19 cases are again rising Europe. For example, the number of people testing positive in the U.K. is up 16% in the last week.
On the other hand, local coronavirus hospitalizations remain low. Will we see another surge in North Texas? Are those who are vaccinated, and especially boosted, protected against the latest variant?
