Tarrant County Commissioners to vote on settlement of $1.2M wrongful death lawsuit

Tarrant County Commissioners are scheduled to vote Tuesday to settle a $1.2 million wrongful death lawsuit involving a child born inside Tarrant County Jail.

Chasity Congius was pregnant when she was arrested on a probation violation in May 2020. Congius' family said she also lives with mental health challenges and that they were trying to get her into a treatment facility.

Congius' lawyer said the child was born in a jail cell and was not properly monitored by jailers. The child died 10 days later.

Tarrant County was served with a wrongful death lawsuit, which county commissioners are scheduled to vote on Tuesday.
