Studies continue on new COVID-19 vaccines in Houston.
Two vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna, are being used but there will be more, and more treatments as well.
Elizabeth Hoff is the Executive Director of Houston based DM clinical research. She says they have seven vaccines in trials including new trials involving those first two shots.
She says they have now enrolled 100 participants in the Moderna teen trial. They are looking for volunteers, including adolescents. "Especially as we try to get schools back in session and have teachers more protected and the parents. We are also opening trials for six months to 12 year old children."
Hoff says there is an urgent call to enroll participants 60 and over for a Johnson and Johnson trial.
Hoff adds their biggest call to action is to enroll people 60 and over as part of the Johnson and Johnson trial.
As part of the new testing on Pfizer, she says they are testing different lot variances. "Many of the companies may want to test different manufacturing processes and those may be variations we need to test for FDA approval."
She says Covid-19 is not going to go away. "There is so much rigor in a vaccine trial, both for age group, inclusion and exclusion criteria as well as manufacturing processes. These trials are here to stay."
Volunteers can be compensated up to $1,000. For more information, go to Houstonfightscovid.com
