DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Parkland, UT Southwestern in Dallas and Texas Health Resources in Fort Worth are among the 19 Texas hospitals received 75,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine today.
Dr. Joseph Chang with Parkland says this is a day of hope.
"This vaccine is amazing. 95% effective, that is up there is measles, mumps and polio. Its a great day," he says.
Parkland received around 6,000 doses of the vaccine today and around 500 shots were administered to employees.
The remaining 86 sites in the state, receiving vaccinations for the first week of distribution are expected to receive their shipments later in the week.
Texas has seen over 24,000 virus-related deaths since the pandemic began, second only to New York.
