Extinguishing the Ross Fire completely could take up to two more weeks, state officials said during a briefing at the Incident Command Post on Wednesday.
Texas Department of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd provided the timeline alongside Gov. Greg Abbott, who praised emergency crews for preventing casualties as the blaze continues to burn across Palo Pinto County.
Abbott attributed the zero reported injuries and fatalities to rapid response times and extensive preparation between local and state agencies. The state has deployed more than 1,000 firefighters and support personnel to assist local crews in battling the wildfire.
While containment efforts remain underway, Palo Pinto County Judge Shane Long reported that the fire’s official cause remains classified as an undetermined roadside start.
